Staff Equity Mission and Vision
Mission: The Office of Staff Equity utilizes liberal arts ideals and the cultural tapestry approach within policies, processes, collaborations, and programming to create an environment where all staff are empowered and encouraged to bring their entire self.
Vision: We are committed to providing a transcultural environment where all members of staff are able to thrive.
Our Process and Philosophy
Our hiring process is structured, competency-based, and equity-centered. We partner with our Human Resources team and our hiring managers from the moment a position is approved through the acceptance of the offer. Every step is designed to ensure clarity, consistency, fairness, and alignment with the competencies required for success in the specific role they are hiring for.
Overview of Equity Advocate Program
As part of the College’s priority of creating a more representative workforce, we have initiated an equity advocate (EA) program. As champions for equality and diversity on campus, EAs are crucial for the continued transformation of Grinnell’s campus community. EAs participate in the staff hiring process by participating in interviews and deliberations. It is also a great opportunity to build relationships across campus
Overview of Employee Resource Groups
Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are voluntary, employee-led groups that promote a sense of belonging and inclusivity within the workplace, as well as contribute to a positive work environment for all employees.
We currently have three ERGs: UMOJA (supporting Black/African Diaspora faculty and staff), QERG (supporting LGBTQIA+ faculty and staff), and DERG (supporting our faculty and staff with disabilities)
